Teens Against Tobacco Use

Teens Against Tobacco Use (TATU) is an American Lung Association developed program focused on tobacco user prevention. The TATU program is designed to help teens develop strong leadership skills while influencing younger children to live tobacco-free lifestyles. TATU empowers teens to develop their own anti-tobacco presentation, and through peer education, teach younger children about why choosing to not smoke is so important to their health.

Teens Against Tobacco Use:

* Is designed specifically for teens as a peer-mentoring program.

* Is based on research about smoking prevention and the consequences of smoking

* Fulfills service learning/community service requirements for schools

* Includes media literacy components

Youth involved in the Teens Against Tobacco Use program work to develop their own original anti-tobacco presentation. TATU youth then visit area classrooms and afterschool programs to speak with elementary and middle school students about the hazards of tobacco use  and why they choose not to use tobacco. In addition the TATU group participates in Kick Butts Days and World No Tobacco Day.
